Limerick-based Kirby Group Engineering pedals out for breast cancer research

THE inaugural Kirby Way Cycle took place last September with 176 cyclists supported by volunteers, drivers and a support crew made up of Kirby Group Engineering employees, their families, supply chain partners and clients taking on the 300km challenge of cycling from Limerick to Galway and then on to Dublin for charity. The event was a massive success with over €430,000 raised overall with €60,000 going to one of the benefactors, the National Breast Cancer Research Institute a national charity based at The Lambe Institute, University of Galway. Milford Care Centre thankful for partnership with Limerick-based company Commenting on the amount of money raised, the charity’s chairperson, Caroline Loughnane said: “The National Breast Cancer Research Institute is honoured to be chosen by the Kirby Group Engineering team. They have a fantastic team spirit within the organisation which is really impressive. The funding raised will help our researchers work towards better breast cancer treatments, therapies and solutions to give hope and better outcomes for breast cancer patients. We would like to congratulate the management and staff on creating such a wonderful event and thank them sincerely for their generous support of NBCRI.” Reflecting on the event, Mikey Ryan Operations Director, Kirby Group Engineering said:“When we first began developing this concept, I knew we could make it a success but I was amazed at the support from within the company and from sponsors, clients, the ambassadors and partner charities. There has been a wave of positivity towards the Kirby Way Cycle and I’m so grateful to everyone for that”.
